0.4.0 - Arboriculture
Oh No! It's THE HORDE! » Devlog
In 0.4.0, Chauncey gains the ability to plant and harvest trees.
Features
- New entities: Sapling (+), Log (=)
- New action: Plant sapling (tap 's', then a direction)
- Players and Hordelings may attack Trees
- A destroyed Tree drops a Log, which the player may collect for five gold
- Boundary Trees are an invincible species
- Trees may spawn a Sapling at the start of Spring
- Saplings grow into Trees at the beginning of Spring
- Added a debug (`) command to gain ten gold
- A red '$' floats off of the player when they attempt to spend money they don't have
- Reworked field of view for changing terrain midgame
- Removed the FOV memory shadow*
In the early game, logging is your primary source of income. Each sapling provides a 500% return on investment but takes a year to develop. In 0.4.0, that's pretty good, but the spending decision will be more complicated in later versions. Trees also serve as a simple wall to protect against hordelings, but they also block your sight.
* I plan on reimplementing this later on. For now, the implementation was buggy and did not easily support changing scenery (houses in 0.3 were ignored. In cases like this, it's better to throw it out and start fresh.
Minor Fixes
- Boundary trees now extend to all four corners
